Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee encouraged South Carolinians and college students to vote in the S.C. primary - specifically, to vote for him - while speaking to a crowd Jan. 17 at Powers Aviation near Florence Regional Airport.
"I know that sometimes people get up and they say, 'Now, it doesn't really matter who you vote for as long as you vote,'" the former Arkansas governor said. "Well, I'm going to let somebody else be real nice and say that, because I'm going to tell you it matters who you vote for."
Joined by Chuck Norris and Rick Flair, Huckabee said this presidential election will be particularly important for students.
"This next election will mean more to college students than anyone my age, simply because the decisions are going to affect their lives a lot longer," he said.
He emphasized the importance of young people getting involved in the process of selecting our nation's next president.
"I hope they come out, because it's really going to be important," Huckabee said.
He also had a message for anyone who wasn't planning to vote for him during the S.C. primary.
"If you're not going to vote for me, then I'd rather you just watch cartoons or football on Saturday," Huckabee said.
Huckabee introduced Norris and Flair as his "future secretary of defense and secretary of homeland security."
The former governor had a tip for supporters to help make sure things would go his way during the S.C. primaries.
"If you've got neighbors who aren't going to vote for me, let the air out of their tires," he said.
Huckabee made his way out of the aviation hanger with Flair, Norris, former S.C. Gov. David Beasley, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and his wife, Janet.
He signed autographs and posed for pictures before taking off to continue campaigning across the Palmetto state.
