"A lot of people complain that we don't have a lot of Greek events," Alpha Phi Alpha member Everett "Robbie" Robinson said. "I thought the Stroll Off would be good for FMU."
Though some groups prepared weeks in advance for the competition, Robinson said it didn't take long for his fraternity to decide what to perform.
"For Alphas, it only takes one night to practice," he said.
Kappa Alpha Psi member Quincy Johnson was pleased with the number of supporters in attendance.
"I didn't think that many people were going to come," Johnson said.
Five of the nine NPHC fraternities and sororities participated in the competition. Kappa Alpha Psi member T.J. Simmons said the groups put their differences aside in order to provide an enjoyable experience for the audience.
"Everybody was out there having fun," Simmons said. "No one was really beefing."
Each organization put together a two- or three-minute routine of party hops and performed them in front of the crowd.
Kappa Alpha Psi member Howard Vereen was impressed with how all the organizations came together for a single cause.
"Seeing as how we are not a historically black college, it's not common here," Vereen said.
Robinson agreed.
"This is something for the history books," he said.
Robinson said he can't wait for the next Stroll Off Competition. He said he would like to have fraternities from the Interfraternity Council (IFC) involved next time the event is held.
"The next one is going to be so much bigger," he said. "We're going to have NPHC and IFC."
