Spring intramural racquetball began recently with wins by Amanda Morales in women's singles and Spyder Webb in men's singles.

Morales defeated Ashley van Laethem, and Webb beat Derrick Young.

In racquetball doubles, Chaniece Applewhite and Michelle Settergren won the championship.

In the game of the week, Young and Grant Shirk defeated David Lyles and Michael Lindhart in a racquetball doubles three-set match.

Young and Shirk won the first set, 15-7, but they lost the second set to Lyles and Lindhart, 15-13.

The final set was a close game, with Lyles and Lindhart in the lead, 7-2, in the beginning. After a time out, however, Young and Shirk turned the game around. Shirk dove to make several saves, and Young made a behind-the-back shot to take the lead and win the game, 11-9.

Campus Recreation Services will host the Patriot Games during Homecoming week.

The event will consist of four-person teams that will compete in a variety of games.
Games to be played include a water-balloon toss, a dizzy bat race, 3-on-3 basketball, a scavenger hunt and more.

Champion teams will win trophies, and their team's name will be engraved on the Patriot Games plaque.

Best sportsmanship awards also will be given out. All winners will be announced on Homecoming day, March 1, on the University Center lawn.

In order to participate, all roster forms must be submitted to Young by Feb. 18.

Students on academic probation are ineligible to participate, and those allowing a student on probation to play will lose all points acquired while the ineligible student was playing.

For more information or to sign up, visit the Office of Campus Recreation Services, UC 214, or call Young at (843) 661-1186.
