More than 50 artistic talents, performances and activities for all ages will be featured on campus 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5 when the 31st annual Art's Alive Festival takes place.

"The Art's Alive Festival has established itself as an enduring tradition," said Libby Cooper, vice president of public and community affairs. "We're looking forward to a day filled with (arts) for all ages and tastes to enjoy."

Admission to all events is free and open to the public. In addition to the artistic talents, a variety of food vendors will be on site.

There will be four stages during the festival - two inside and two outside. Adele Kassab Recital Hall in the Hyman Fine Arts Center and Chapman Auditorium in the McNair Science Building will function as the indoor stages for musical and dance performances, respectively. One outdoor stage will be located near McNair Science Building, and the main outdoor stage will be situated between the campus clock and fountain.

Jim Quick & Coastline band, Parris Island Marine Band and The Woody's, a local band, will perform on the main outdoor stage during the festival.

Various dance performances, multiple choral ensembles, and comedy, magic and theatrical renditions also will be featured during the art-packed event.

An art show will run all day and offer the public a chance to see artists demonstrate their talent. Watercolors, oils, acrylics, pottery, woodwork, stained glass and jewelry also will be on display and available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the Art's Alive Scholarship Fund.

The public will have the opportunity to express their own artistic talents during the sidewalk chalk art competition scheduled for 11 a.m. The Youth Art Center will be open throughout the day for children to make rain shakers, animal masks, exotic creature pins and balloon sculptures. Face painting will be offered, as well. At 2 p.m., Lowe's Home Improvement will sponsor a birdhouse-making workshop for children.

Additionally, a movie matinee will be underway from 1 to 5 p.m. in Lowrimore Auditorium featuring cartoon classics and short films by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
